Setting
The
fictitious story takes place in Korea during the Joseon dynasty a few
centuries ago, in
the 1500s. It is set during the reign of King
Yeonsan (Yeonsan-gun)
who was dethrone in 1506 for tyrannical misruling. The period 1504 to
1506 to be more precise.
It focuses
on a pair of clowns (or more accurately minstrels /
street entertainers) who perform bawdy plays, songs, and acrobatic tricks for
both aristocrats and commoners.
The first part of the story takes place on the streets of
Han-yang (Capital of Korea in the olden days) while the second part takes place in the
palace of the despotic monarch.
